Most of you have probably been on YouTube before and wondered why you can't download the videos so you can watch them on your computer whenever you like or take them with you on your ipod. I know I used to get pissed off when I couldn't download funny Family Guy clips or songs that I couldn't find anywhere else. Well good news for both of us, there is a plethora of free options available to do this.
One option that I find extremely useful for getting individual videos or songs is CatchYouTube. On this website all you do is simply enter the youtube url into the box and select what format you would like it in. You can choose to download the video for playback on your ipod, desktop, or anything else you want. Simply click the circle next to the format you want and the website will automatically convert it for you and then allow you to download it straight to your computer.
Another website that allows you to convert and download YouTube videos is Vixy.net. This site is very similar to CatchYouTube. You enter the YouTube url and select the file format you would like to download.
If you are a FireFox or Internet Explorer user you can download Ant.com toolbar that will allow you to download videos from YouTube and other similar sites. It will place a tolbar on your browser that allows you to search for videos through its own search engine or download videos from your favorite sites. Click the download button on the toolbar and you will begin to donload the video. The only problem for some users is that it downloads the file in an .flv format which is not supported by default in most operating systems. However there are many options to convert and view these formats. One such program available for free on your Mac is HandBrake. With this App you can choose the downloaded file and convert it to other video formats such as .mp4 to view on your computer or iPod.
To download songs from YouTube on your pc you can use Free YouTube to Mp3 Converter. This one works like most of the other coverters, paste the url and viola! On your Mac you can try YouTube converter Mac. This progrma is nicer looking than pc conterpart and also allows you to choose video formats as well. Downloading multiple youtube files at once is also a breeze and the program can even detect when you are on YouTube to make things even easier. However, it does come with a price. For a free alternative, I would recommend Get Tube. This free little app lets you change the format that you download the file in through the preferences menu. Simply browse to the youtube video you want in your browser, open up the app, select the browser, then click download.
